A taste of Trinidad
What is missing from this table?
Did you notice?
There are no forks!
If you eat 'trini' style - you don't need forks.
Use this instead
It is a bread called buss-up-shut or 'clap' roti - clap because you actually slap it between your hands after cooking to make it softer.
Roti is everywhere in Trinidad. Isn't it an unusual bread?
I had 'plenty friends' (that is how we talk here) show me how to eat forklessly at a potluck meal after church in Sangre Grande last Sunday.
This young man was an expert - he pulled off little pieces of roti and used it to pick up the curried chickpeas or chicken.
The primary children were equally accomplished - they all said that the chick peas (called Channa here) was their favorite.
They are wondering if a young man from Boise Idaho (Elder Walker) can do the 'roti scoop'
