Guyana Zone Conferences

Our flights from Suriname to Guyana are always in a small plane.

Are pilots allowed to read the newspaper while they fly?

Looking down upon Guyana


We arrived at the airport and drove to Canje for the first of two Zone Conferences.

We passed by the building for the new Bush Lot branch


Crossing on the ferry, I ran into Patricia Ali - a new member of the Bush Lot branch for only a few months and already in the Young Women's presidency!


In the evening my husband and I did leadership training for the Canje District - what amazing sisters!!!

The next morning we took a little detour on the way to Zone Conference so I could pet an alligator (actually a cayman).

(My daughter just emailed me after looking at this and said "WHAT ARE YOU DOING PETTING A LIVE ALLIGATOR!!!" Look closely - it met its maker long before it met me.)


We had a hard time getting zone conference started because the power was out at the Canje chapel where we planned to meet. We diverted to the New Amsterdam chapel, but - no keys for the gate


It's a good thing Elders are energetic and resourceful

It was a terribly hot day and after conference (and a yummy lunch provided by the couples) we had to travel all the way back to Georgetown.

I told my husband to take a picture of my hottest day ever!
I wonder why the missionaries look so cool.


The next day we had Zone Conference in Georgetown with the mighty Georgetown and Diamond Zones

A special moment was seeing a newer member, Amanda, share her mission call to the Dominican Republic (helped by Elder Tanner because she was too teary to read)


In the evening President Johnson (the Caribbean Area President) held an important leadership training meeting to help prepare Guyana for a stake.

We spent many hours in airports today. However, mission business must go on - sometimes it takes two phones to do it.


We got diverted to Grenada for a while because of severe storms in Trinidad. It was frustrating - but the after storm view from above was beautiful


and always - loads of color in the Caribbean
